100 Hours of Astronomy

Map of current New Zealand 100 Hours events

100 hours of Astronomy was a 100 hour, round-the-clock, round-the-globe event, including live web casts from research observatories, public sidewalk observing events and other activities to celebrate the International Year of Astronomy 2009. One of the key goals of this event was to allow as many people as possible to look through a telescope—day or night, just as Galileo did some 400 years ago.

Posters, handouts, and other resources are available to help publicise the 100 hours event. The official site has further resources, as well as information on events happening around New Zealand and the world.

Confirmed Groups and Astronomical Societies taking part

A table of participating New Zealand groups is available on this site. You can also search for New Zealand events at the official 100 HA website.

Also, be sure to check out footage from the 100HA Around the World in 80 Telescopes event, archived on Ustream. Featuring the MOA 1.8m Optical Research Telescope at Mt John University Observatory, Lake Tekapo.
