People wanting to present a talk are welcomed. We already have several who have confirmed themselves as available to speak (the organisers reserve the right to control this and keep the event from becoming too much of a talk fest)

Composer Warwick Blair presents a four-hour preview of his forthcoming project Stars, a 24-hour-long audio-visual project inspired by the Indian concept of anoraniyan mahatomahiyan, which proposes an intertwined relationship between the cosmos and human body. Blair's composition draws from gandharva music, which applies particular qualities to specific times of the day, and incorporates electronic backing and vocals from Sandhya Rao Badakere.

Details: Cook Observatory open from 8pm till 9.30pm, and some Telescopes set up in Treble Court (beside McDonalds) in the central city area at 8pm to 9pm (but we will stay longer as long as there are people around and keen to have a look).
- Wellington
Details: on the Waterfront at Queens Wharf, with at least one of each type of telescope, a 100mm refractor, a 150mm reflector, a 200mm Schmidt-Cassegrain and a 150mm Dobsonian mounted reflector. This year we will also have a yagi array on a steerable mount to demonstrate radio astronomy concepts and a laptop playing solar movies and solar radio sounds.
We run our event in conjunction with members from both Wellington Astronomical Society and the Phoenix Astronomical Society, liaising with our City Council to ensure public safety and minimal impact on other public activities.

The ROYAL SOCIETY OF NEW ZEALAND has arranged for a presentation
Careering through Astronomy, by Jocelyn Bell Burnell,
Professor of Astrophysics at the University of Oxford.
Many of you will know the exciting story of her discovery of radio pulsars when she was a postgraduate student. Professor Bell is currently in New Zealand on holiday, but has kindly agreed to take time out to meet with us.
